- 1 1/4 cup flour
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1 stick cold butter (cubed)
- 6 Tbsp. ice water
Combine flour, sugar and salt. Then begin to add cubes of butter using mixer (you can try and do it by hand like I did 🙂 ). The mixture will be crumbly, so add water one tablespoon at a time un till the dough begins to come together and look like dough. This is a great time to get your hands dirty to make sure the dough comes together. Once there is an actual dough, roll into a ball and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 20- 30 minutes (or as long as it takes to make your filling). The ball might look like the image to the right.
- 3-4 Apples (depending on size) peeled and sliced
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. flour
- Squeeze of Lemon juice
Mix your sugar, salt and flour in a bowl and take your cut up, delicious peeled apples and mix them in. Just squeeze a little lemon juice overthe mixture.
Preheat your oven at 375 degrees F. Take the ball of dough out of the fridge and place on a floured surface. Begin to roll out the dough and your goal is to achieve about a 14 inch round (this varies, but that makes it look way better). Cover a cookie sheet with parcement (I used one with a raised edge, because I didn’t want the possible apple juices flowing out of the galette). Take the circle and place it centered on the cookie sheet.
Now the fun part, take your apples and put them in the center of the dough. You can either arrange them neatly or just dump them one, that is up to you. I did a combination of both. Once all of your apples are on, take the edges of the dough and fold them up (see next image to the left.)
You can now great a glaze with eggs, etc, but I just took a little milk and brushed it on the crust (will make it a yummy golden brown). Then I took a mixture of sugar and cinnamon and sprinkled it all over the apples and the crust. Also now it the time if you want to add nuts (pecans or walnuts would be good) or maybe even dried cranberries, all up to you.
Then bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, your crust should be golden. This is what mine looked like at the end.
I think it looks totally delicious, which means it’s time to enjoy. I’m so excited to try it. Yum apples make great desserts. Have fun baking!
